More About Me and My Interests

About myself and the type of person I would like to meet.
I was born in the USA (nyc) to a Jat Sikh family; I did all my education in public schools in nyc and then went to med school in NYC as well. I am currently in my final year of residency in Boston, and plan to further specialize in oncology. I have an older brother who is also a physician and an older sister who is a H. S. math teacher.

I think I would best describe myself as a laid back, thoughtful, respectful, caring, somewhat introverted (especially in large crowds), and sarcastic person who finds true joy in making fun of the ironic twists that life throws our way. I take great pride in maintaining the Sikh identity and in our Sikh history and values, although I have to say I am not as religious at this point in my life as I would hope to be and hope to become. I think the values of universal equality of human beings, by race, religion, wealth, and gender espoused in Sikhi and repeatedly defended through the valiant efforts of Sikh men and women in history is truly unmatched in this world, and provides the only true answer to the 'purpose of life' question. (Only through valuing this equality and harmony can we appreciate the immense beauty of Waheguru's Creation. )

I have a number of academic and non-academic interests. My non academic interests include being a huge sports fan, participating in sports, listening to music (Bhangra, 'punjabi sad songs', pop, rap), watching tv on the rare occasion that I have time, following politics, and eating!

Something I would like to do but haven't done before
There is so much of this infinite universe I have yet to experience.

What being a Sikh means to me.
Being a universal sewadar, never settling for the easy or convenient choice, to always see others being oppressed as if it were yourself being oppressed, to be willing to set one's ego aside to open oneself up to learning and understanding.

My Favorite books, music, songs, movies, etc.
19th century literature: Dostoevsky, Charlotte Bronte, Elizabeth Gaskell, Leo Tolstoy, to name a few authors.

Music: Saint Soulja, Babbu Mann, Satinder Sartaj, Gurminder Guri, Matisyahu, Tupac, Taylor Swift, Johnny Cash, Kanye West, anything with depth in lyrics or soul shaking harmony.

Movies: Comedies, romantic comedy, the occasional sappish Bollywood hit.

What I can give in a relationship is...
Respect, loyalty, understanding, support, spiritual connection, and I hope happiness.
